Scope of
Works

Warrington & Vale Royal Collage had completely refurbished the teaching, learning and communal facilities within its Winsford Campus to provide high-specification and collaborative workspaces for all students and employees.

As part of the renovation, the communal three-storey atrium required a new, contemporary look. After a competitive tender process, Hankinson secured the complete painting and decorating contract. The transformation of the area had to be completed over four weeks in time for the September intake of new students.

All works were completed by our in-house delivery teams who have extensive experience working in and around a live education environment and understand the fast-paced requirements of working over summer shutdowns.

Our collaborative approach to mobilisation ensured that the project was completed on time and within budget while providing a high-quality finish and excellent quality of service.

Our Approach

Working extensively within the education sector over the last four decades has allowed us to take lessons learned from previous schemes to improve on the value, efficiency and safety we can provide to our clients on all new projects.

This project had its own particular challenges which included accessibility, being a live environment and time restrictions.

Due to the sheer size and height of the atrium accessibility was a concern to the client, and safety is as always, of paramount importance to us. Our IPAF-trained Operatives used a Mobile Elevated Working Platform (MEWP) to successfully complete any works at height.

While the college was shut for students, the site remained open and live to estate maintenance teams and teaching staff. Our dedicated Site Manager successfully established and managed processes, procedures and management systems, tailored towards a proactive zero-accidents approach and minimising disruption to the college users, including comprehensive site signage and established isolation zones.

Practical completion was successful after a four-week project turnaround, which is a testament to the hard work and drive of the site management and delivery teams working in collaboration with the client and all other trades.

Testimonial

"Hankinson Whittle have, over the last 20 years, undertaken numerous painting and decorating projects. This has ranged from minor daywork to extensive internal and external decoration.

In Summer 2024, Hankinson Whittle undertook the internal decoration of a three-storey atrium aty our Winsford site. The involved the use of access equipment and protective matting on the tiled floor as the floor has underfloor heating pipework. The work was all completed without issue, to a high standard and on time.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Hankinson Whittle for painting and decoration works."
